ASSIST SENIOR CITIZEN ADOPTERS Studies have shown that owning a pet can help people live healthier, happier lives. Owning a pet has been credited with helping to lower a person's heart rate and blood pressure and reduce stress. As most pet owners will agree, a pet also can be a great cure for loneliness. This year, Purina has recommitted itself to assisting senior citizens in our community with adopting a mature pet as part of the Purina Pets for People Program?. Purina will donate $50 to help cover the cost of an adult cat or adult dog adoption fee for each qualifying senior. The Purina Pets for People Program? was founded in 1984 to encourage mature pet adoptions and educate people about how to be responsible pet owners. "Training, veterinary care, proper exercise, good nutrition and lots of love are all part of the commitment people should make to their canine or feline family members," says Dr. Dan Christian, Director of Professional Communications for Nestle Purina PetCare Company. For more information about how you can bring love home by adopting a shelter pet, please contact the Highland Animal Shelter at 654.6067.
